Christmas shopping evening

Thursday 29 November, 5pm to 9pm

Join us for our Christmas shopping evening in our new shop at Bolton Museum! We’ve got several new ranges and there’ll be an exclusive 10% discount on all items.

Get some gift-wrapping inspiration from our staff who will be on hand doing demonstrations.

Explore our new galleries while you’re here!

Light festive refreshments will be provided.

Christmas Wreath making

Monday 10 December, 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Come and create your own Christmas Wreath with Margot Flowers of Bolton.

Using fresh foliage and natural materials, create a beautiful welcome to your home this Christmas.

The session will take place in our stunning Art Gallery.

The cost is £25 per person including all materials, tuition and light seasonal refreshments. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the museum shop or by calling 01204 332211.

Christmas Toddler Tales

Friday 14 December, 11am

Join us for a special Christmas Toddler Tales where we’ll be joined by Royal National Lifeboat Institution.  

There’ll be a festive RNLI story, interactive play, craft and  safety information for parents.

Celebrate Christmas with the Stick Man 

Saturday 15 December, 10am and 2pm

Join us for an interactive storytelling performance of Julia Donaldson’s family favourite ‘Stick Man’!

You will meet Officer McGovern who needs your help to find Stick Man and return him to his Stick Lady Love and their Stick children three. 

There’ll be lots of singing, dancing along with Christmas themed fun. Plus, children will receive a gift from a special guest!

Performances will be at 10am and 2pm. Tickets are £5 per child and £2.50 per adult and are available from Bolton Museum’s shop or call 01204 332211.

Arty Babies Christmas special!

Tuesday 18 December, 10.30am

We’ll be starting at 10.30am with cheerful fun songs and lots of festive activities at our Arty Babies session.

Coffee and Carols

Tuesday 18 December, 1.45pm

Let us entertain you with carol singing and enjoy some seasonal refreshments. Then at 1.45pm come and join Moorgate Primary School children as they sing Christmas Carols. Hot drinks and mince pies will be available. 

Saturday Club Christmas bonanza

Saturday 22 December, 1.30pm to 3pm

Make cards, crowns and decorations for Christmas. Listen to some fantastic seasonal stories too!

Historic Halls

Christmas trail at Hall i' th' Wood Museum

Saturday 8,15 and 22 December, 12pm and 4pm

Come along to Hall i’ th’ Wood Museum on Saturday 8, 15 and 22 December, from 12pm to 4pm. Have a go at the Christmas trail and take a look at the beautiful festive decorations around the museum.

Christmas with the Bennett Ladies Choir at Smithills Hall

Sunday 9 December, 1pm and 2.30pm

Hear the Rivington based Bennett Ladies Choir sing Christmas carols in the Great Hall. The choir will perform at 1pm and at 2.30pm. Take a look around the hall and see the magnificent Tudor and Victorian Christmas decorations. There will be mince pies and mulled wine on sale. Free entry.

Coffee and Carols

Farnworth Library, Thursday 6 December, 11am

A local school choir will be bringing the Christmas spirit to Farnworth Library. Enjoy the carols along with a nice hot drink and a mince pie.

Blackrod Library, Thursday 13 December, 10.30am to 11.30am

Children from Blackrod Church School will a selection of Christmas songs. Refreshments will be served.

Bromley Cross Library, Thursday 13 December, 10.30am

Eagley Infants will be singing Christmas carols and songs at 10.30am followed by Eagley Juniors at 11.15am. Hot drinks and mince pies will be available throughout the morning.

Horwich Library, Friday 14 December, 1pm to 3.30pm

Have a mince pie and a brew with everyone at Horwich Library. Enjoy a sing a long or listen to some festive tunes played by Tony on the keyboard.

Westhoughton Library, Thursday 20 December, 10am to 11am

Join us at Westhoughton Library this Christmas for carol singing with St Bartholomew’s School. Tea, coffee, mince pies and biscuits will be available.

Make a Father Christmas face with the Crafty Crew at Bromley Cross Library

Saturday 1 December, 10am to 12pm

Join the Crafty Crew and make Father Christmas faces ready for Christmas.  Suitable for age 4 to 11 years old. No need to book. 

Children’s Christmas crafts at Horwich Library

Saturday 1, 8, 15 and 22 December, 10am to 3pm

Come to Horwich Library for some festive fun! There will be a variety of crafts each Saturday on the run up to the big day! Free activity sessions and suitable children under the age of 13.

Join us for lots of Christmas craft activities.

Yuletide Ukuleles Festive fun at Harwood Library, Friday 14 December, 1.30pm to 2.30pm

Come along and listen to or join in with lots of well known Christmas songs with the Ukes Like Us Ukulele Group. Light refreshments will be provided.

Create a snowman mobile with the Crafty Crew at Bromley Cross Library

Pop along and see the Crafty Crew and create a snowman mobile. Suitable for age 4 to 11 years old.  No need to book.

Join us at Breightmet Library to decorate your own sparkling Christmas bauble to take home and put on the tree. This is a free event for both children and adults. Our Christmas elf will be on hand to offer assistance.

Books and Banter, Breightmet Library

Are you reading at the moment? Would you like to find out what's popular with other people?

All borrowers are invited to come along to have a cuppa,  mince pie and a chat about what they’re reading.

Whether you've been reading books for years or would like to start reading, just bring a book and enjoy the banter!

Books and Banter is suitable for age 16+. Free refreshments provided.

Come and make a handmade Christmas card and send someone a special greeting.

Arabian adventures with Aladdin, Bromley Cross Library

Thursday 27 December, 1pm

Come on board our magic carpet for Arabian adventures with Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie.

Listen to the tale of Aladdin who found a magic lamp, join in with activities and crafts and make your very own magic lamp!  Fancy dress is optional, doesn’t have to Arabian, any character is welcome! 

Decoupage winter scene, High Street Library

Cut, paste and colour to make yourself a decoupage style 3-D winter scene picture. 

Model Snowman, High Street Library

Saturday 29 December, 2.15pm to 3pm

Craft a snowman from modelling clay and decorate with top hat, scarf and buttons.

Narnia competition Sunday, High Street Library

Sunday 30 December, 10am to 4pm

Children can enter a range of Narnia themed competitions from story writing, word searches, puzzles, drawing and a Narnia trail. Small prizes will be available.

New Year Specs, High Street Library

Monday 31 December, 10am to 4pm

See in a spectacular New Year with your own handcrafted rose tinted party glasses. We’ve got a special 2019 design for you!

New Year’s Eve activity session, Harwood Library

Monday 31 December, 10am to 3pm

Celebrate New Year’s Eve by making 2019 crowns and listen to pop up stories at 11am, 12pm and 1pm. There will also be Toddler Tales session at 2pm.

Traditional party games, High Street Library

Thursday 3 January, 2pm to 3pm

Join us as we open the upstairs room to play party games! We’ll be playing pass the parcel, moving snowmen, snowball race and more! Free tickets available from High Street Library in advance.
