Colonel Ainsworth's Room

This section of Smithills Hall was part of the early 16th century extension built by Robert Barton and was originally divided into two rooms. The door behind the organ led into what was at one time a billiard room, and was later used as a make-shift classroom for Mrs. Ainsworth’s Sunday school meetings and women’s Bible group meetings.

The Colonel’s room is decorated in the fashionable late Victorian style inspired by William Morris and his associates, and contains furniture from the 18th and 19th centuries.
