Reading Friends

Reading Friends aims to bring people together to share stories, make new friends and have fun through reading books, magazines and newspapers. Anything that encourages people to chat.

Reading Friends is a Reading Agency programme created with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, Scottish Book Trust, Literature Wales and Verbal in Northern Ireland.

Tea and Tall Tales with Richard O'Neill

Thursday 26th September 2pm - 3.30pm

Join us at Breightmet Library, along with storyteller Richard O'Neill, for stories followed by tea and cake. (Free book to take home too!)

Richard O'Neill is a sixth generation multi-award winning master storyteller and author from the Romany tradition and is Bolton's Reading Friends Champion. 

This event is FREE and there is no need to reserve a place. 


Central Library Reading Friends 


Meets on the second Friday of every month from 2pm – 3pm.

A new informal group who meet to share stories over a brew and biscuit. An opportunity to listen, chat and relax as the written word is brought to life with readings from novels, poems magazines. Read something interesting? Bring it along to share. Just want to listen? That's fine too. 

Topics covered so far include memories of childhood reads, “Surprising” reads and stories and Nature.

Forthcoming themes include Light and Dark (Sep 13th ) and Can you judge a book by it's cover? (Oct 11th).

Breightmet Library Reading Friends

Meets on the first Thursday of every month from 2pm - 3pm.

Join us for our first meeting on Thursday 3rd October.

Reading Friends meet regularly for a talk about reading and to share stories. All are welcome for a chat and a cuppa.


There is no need to book, just drop in, all welcome!
