    Lunchtime talk - Bolton Museum

Art for Everyone - 80 Years in the Life of Bolton’s Art Collection This talk will look at three individuals who helped to shape Bolton’s art collection: local textile manufacturer, Frank Hindley Smith, who left an important bequest of modern art to the museum; Mass-Observation’s Tom Harrisson and Councillor Harry Lucas, who in the 1950s and 1960s, promoted the idea that the arts had an important role to play in the civic life of the town. Why did they think art and culture were important for people, and what can we learn from them now?
