The centrepiece of the exhibition is Lowry’s iconic painting Going to the Match (1953) which shows fans arriving for a football match at Bolton Wanderers former home ground, Burnden Park.

The exhibition also celebrates the history of Bolton Wanderers in the year that marks the 100th anniversary of the club’s first FA Cup Final victory in 1923.
Going to the Match has recently been acquired by The Lowry, Salford. The purchase was made possible by a gift from the Law Family Charitable Foundation. The Lowry have generously loaned the painting to Bolton Museum for this exhibition.
