Set in land on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, Smithills Hall is one of the oldest and best preserved manor houses in the North West of England.
Containing fine examples of architecture through the ages, from Medieval and Tudor right through to Victorian times, the hall is set in formal gardens next to the West Pennine Moors.

Public transport
Bolton Interchange (3.27 miles away) is the main transport hub, with bus and rail connections. Bus services 525, 526 and 527 from the interchange terminate outside the Hall. Hall i' th' Wood railway station is 2.3 miles away (a 50 minute walk). Plan your journey on tfgm.com.
By car
We are easily accessible by road - the M60, M61 and M6 are all on our doorstep. There is a car park directly outside the hall with designated disabled parking. There is a further car park situated further up the lane from the Hall.
Level access
- The building is accessed via a front door with ramped access.
- There are permanent ramps from the main entrance to the reception area.
- There are various steps up and down into some of the ground floor rooms. A ramp is available on request.
- There are 2 rooms on the first floor accessible via a staircase. Photographs of these rooms are available at the bottom of the stairs for those unable to access this floor.
Hearing
- There are currently no special facilities to aid hearing.
Visual
- A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available on request.
- Some of the rooms have interpretation boards with pictures and large text.
- Lighting in the galleries is generally bright and evenly lit, however some areas are more dimly lit to aid preservation of the collections.
General
- There is a car park directly outside the Hall with designated disabled parking.
- Public toilets including an accessible unisex toilet are located on the ground floor.
- The unisex accessible toilets can be unlocked with a RADAR key available from any member of staff.
- All our staff receive regular training that includes disability awareness training.
- We have children's ear defenders available to borrow in all our Library and Museum spaces.
- We have a set of evacuation procedures. Should you require it someone will assist you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge area. We have evacuation chairs to assist.
- We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl is available on request.

- Please visit Bake and Roast Tea Room @ Smithills Hall open Wednesday-Sunday 10am-4pm.
